CNN has reported on Taiwan's culture of overworking, China Times noted on Oct. 11.
A feature by CNN reporter Paula Hancocks on Oct. 9 reported that people in Taiwan work more than 2,200 hours a year on average, 20% more than working people in the United States or Japan and 35% than their counterparts in Germany. This is despite local laws that say people may not work more than 47 hours of overtime per month.
CNN also said medical workers are among the most overloaded n the country and it has taken a number of protests and complaints to force the authorities to pay attention to their problems.
Physicians in the country say they are seeing more and more patients with cardiac problems, which they believe to be related to working too hard.
