機師在飛機上掌握好幾百人的性命，開飛機更是需要全神貫注，不過就有影片曝光，竟然有機師在執勤的時候，直接坐在正駕駛的位置上，低下頭閉上眼直接睡著，全程被人拍下來，事實上依照台灣的法規，機師是不能在駕駛座上睡覺的，而這一位機師還是機隊的總機師，不過對此華航也回應，飛安第一，已經依照規定懲處。

影片中的男子低下頭，一動也不動，似乎是在打瞌睡，不過仔細一看，他身上穿的是機師制服，坐的位置是正駕駛座，場景就是在飛機上，飛機行駛中，他累到直接在位置上睡著，難道是疲勞到精神不濟嗎，影片曝光機師在空中睡覺，以台灣的規定而言已經違法，更讓飛安面臨危機。
其實這一位機師，不是一般人，而是華航747機隊的總機師，身為主管卻做了最壞示範。
華航機師：「（他這樣）不意外啊，疲勞是大家難免會有，但是身為長官要以身作則，第二個如果你真的體力不支太疲勞，其實你還是可以跟隔壁的組員講一聲說，你要稍微注意我的狀況。」
知情人士透露，因為這件事，這位總機師已經自請處分，而華航也已經懲處。

華航機師：「他也知道自己錯了，所以自請處分就記他一個申誡，不是很嚴重，所以他後來在模擬機考試，他就當掉很多人，可能是要報仇，因為他不知道誰舉發他。」
這位總機師資歷將近20年，專門飛東京、沖繩、首爾和香港，還擔任教官 ，也負責模擬機考試，只是他身為主管職，卻被質疑無視飛安SOP。
華航機師：「他的管理領導風格沒有得到大家的認可，我們希望主管可以開放某程度票選，讓它有民意基礎，就不會讓這種人，就是一些飛行都不及格的人，都上去當官。」
不過對此華航也回應，這件事發生在罷工之前，也已經依規定懲處，但同座副機師沒有善盡提醒責任，反而拍照留存爆料，行為不當，華航也說，重視飛安，違反規定者從嚴處分。
