KUALA LUMPUR - A syndicate was spotted forcing the public to donate money to their "college" after the victims signed a document to show support for the institution, Guang Ming Daily reported.
The group, comprising youngsters, would first approach their victims and ask them to sign a document that purportedly was in support of their fake college in order for them to win a contest, the daily reported.
The group, which was at large near several banks in Bukit Tinggi, Klang, would also ask their victims to "rate" the colleges.
Once a victim noted that the college deserved, for example, 30 points, he would be forced to pay the group RM30 (S$12).
Members of the group would surround the victim and force him to fork out the money, it reported.
A victim told the daily that he was surrounded by the group after they felt that his RM10 donation was "too little". He was forced to give another RM10 before being "released".
The daily was told that the group easily raked in RM6,000 a day.
