Syabu worth RM100,000 smuggled as pills

KUALA LUMPUR: A drug trafficking syndicate tried to smuggle in some RM100,000 worth of syabu by packaging the drugs inside packs of allergy medicine meant to clear stuffed nose.
The gang tried to fool the authorities by “shipping” in the syabu inside 2,000 packets of the flu medicine from Indonesia.
Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohan Singh said four local men, aged between 26 and 50, were also arrested during a raid at a condominium unit in Pudu Impian here on Thursday.
“All four tested positive for methamphetamine and have records for drug offences. One of them was also on the wanted list,” ACP Mohan said at a press conference at the district police headquarters yesterday.
ACP Mohan said the pills weighing 16.5kg were already packed when they were found.
He added the men had been renting the unit for six months.
The is being investigated under Section 29B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 while awaiting test results from the Chemistry Depart*ment.
ACP Mohan also said that 265 individuals, including a 13-year-old student, have been arrested by the Cheras narcotics team under Ops Cantas Khas since Sept 1.
“They were arrested for drug use, possession and distribution. Eighteen of them were distributing drugs in the Cheras area,” he said, adding there were civil servants among those arrested.
