Ang Tai Wei, 36, pleaded guilty earlier to causing hurt to Mr Tee Hai Swee, 66, with an unknown man at the void deck of Block 175 Boon Lay Drive on May 3.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Indulekha Chitran said Mr Tee who worked in Jurong West extension area was in Choa Chu Kang on May 2 when Ang told him not to do business there and Bukit Panjang as the two areas were his territory.
The victim then left but noted the vehicle registration number of Ang.
He later asked his boss if he knew the driver of the vehicle, and if so, to tell the man to let him make some money.
The following evening, Mr Tee received a phone call from an unknown man, alleging that the victim was checking on his background.
Another man also spoke to the victim. They told him to stay where he was as they would be there soon. Shortly after 9.30pm, Mr Tee was at Boon Lay Drive when he saw Ang rush towards him and punch him twice.
He fell. As he was getting up, he saw Ang and another man running towards him with a parang.
During the attack, the victim raised his arms to shield himself and was slashed. The victim suffered severe injuries to both arms, and is still going for follow-up treatment.
Ang could have been jailed for up to seven years or fined or caned or received any combined punishment for causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
