Suspected loanshark runner arrested

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 42-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.
Officers from Clementi Police Division were conducting anti-crime patrols at the vicinity of Clementi Avenue 3 on March 12 when they spotted a man behaving suspiciously at 7.28 pm.
They conducted a check on him and found three Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, two mobile phones, some bank transaction receipts and cash amounting to $630 believed to be related to loansharking activities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a debtor-turned-runner who is believed to have facilitated ATM transactions on behalf of the loansharks.
Investigations against the suspect are ongoing.
First-time offenders found guilty of assisting in the carrying on of the business of an unlicensed moneylender may be fined at least $30,000, be jailed for up to four years and shall also face up to six strokes of the cane.
