Police arrested a 34-year-old man at Clementi Ave 3 yesterday night for suspected loansharking activities.
Officers spotted the suspect behaving suspiciously in front of an ATM at Block 449, and after conducting a check, found two mobile phones containing bank account information and debtors' records in his possession.
Initial investigations showed that the suspect was a debtor-turned-runner and is believed to have assisted loansharks.
He will be charged in court tomorrow under the Moneylenders Act.
If found guilty, first-time offenders may be fined between $30,000 and $300,000, be jailed for up to four years and may also face up to six strokes on the cane.
