Suspected housebreaker targeting new public housing units arrested

AsiaOne Thursday, Jun 04, 2015

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 46-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of housebreaking and theft incidents in the Choa Chu Kang public housing area.

Between May 24 and Jun 3, the police received several reports regarding household appliances, such as sink, stoves, taps and water heaters, being stolen from newly completed residential units.

These units were undergoing renovation and were only secured with number locks. The owners found that their number locks were removed from door entrances and their household appliances stolen.

On Jun 3 at about 4.30pm, police officers arrested the suspect near Lower Kent Ridge Road and recovered numerous household appliances from the suspect's residence, which are believed to be the stolen items.

If convicted, the suspect faces a maximum imprisonment term of 14 years.
