A man has been taken into police custody in Jakarta over the murder of Singaporean technical specialist Chellappan Karunanidhi.
The 43-year-old was found dead by his driver in his apartment in an upmarket area in the north of the Indonesian capital on Saturday. There were marks on his neck and he was dressed in shorts and a T-shirt.
Jakarta police said they have interviewed seven people, all of them friends or colleagues of Mr Karunanidhi. A spokesman said the suspect is one of the seven. Although he is in custody, he has not been formally arrested or charged as no motive has been established.
The victim worked for Jurong Engineering in Singapore and had visited Jakarta frequently over the past year to supervise the opening of a new power plant run by a subsidiary of the firm.
