Suspect caught for mobile phone theft

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a series of criminal breach of trust cases involving mobile phones.
Between 22 December 2011 and 4 January 2012, the police received several reports of the crime committed by the suspect in the Jurong East housing estate.
The police said the suspect would approach the victims to borrow their mobile phones to make urgent phone calls.
After the victims had handed over their mobile phones, he would pretend to make a few calls and then take off with their phones on a bicycle.
More than S$1,100 worth of mobile phones were stolen from the victims.
The suspect was caught at about 5pm on Wednesday in Boon Lay Way.
He had with him a mobile phone that was believed to have been stolen.
The suspect is believed to be involved in at least three cases of criminal breach of trust.
He will be charged in court on Friday.
