Sharp Introduces Superheated Steam Oven

The Electric Superheated Steam Oven features a newly developed Superheated Steam Generator that bathes food in a spray of superheated steam to provide low-calorie cooking as well as removing excess fat and salt from foods, while retaining vitamins.

Superheated steam of 300 degrees celsius are sprayed onto food, delivering approximately eight times more heat than a standard convection oven, cooking foods such as meat and fried foods, while causing excessive fat to simply melt and fall away. The oven also reduces salt content in food by approximately three times compared to using a normal gas grill, due to the use of steam and the normal diffusion action of salt.

Deputy Managing Director of Sharp Corporation of Australia, Denis Kerr, said the new Electric Superheated Steam Oven will revolutionise how we cook our meals in the future.

"Sharp are the leaders in microwave oven technology in the world today, and this new, amazing way of cooking healthy meals for the whole family is the latest from Sharp to change the way we live. The superheated steam can cook, bake, roast, grill, steam, warm, defrost and even warm leftovers," Mr Kerr said.

"Not only is the moisture content in food retained through the steam, but vitamins such as vitamin C are also retained due to the low oxidisation that occurs using this cooking method. Food also comes out of the oven cooked to perfection, moist and tender.

"And while the oven cooks using steam, it can also dry bake items such as bread and cookies, it can even toast bread, proving that Sharp has once again developed technology for the future," he said.

The 26-litre, 1,400W oven contains 126 built-in recipes and a self-cleaning mode. Available in silver or red, it is expected to be released in Australia in the new year.

Bleeding edge technology .

Yeah. Bleed away my desire to eat. Can't imagine it will takes away the salt and fat. Won't any food that's goes in becomes tasteless?

Sam would love it though.

NO NO NO , i heard of these super steam oven many years ago, it was available first in the professional kitchen, and slowly introduce to home at very high price. recently the price have fallen. but it does not replace the conventional oven or microwave oven. it cannot bake cake or cook frozen pizza. it just a normal steam cooker but at turbo speed.

this is not cutting edge technology.

Sounds interesting, but maybe not. When it comes to makanan, the old ways still have their way.

The microwave oven in my kitchen has not been used for some time, not even for defrosting (put the frozen meat in a plastic bag and leave it in a bowl of room temperature water). Same thing with me propane bbq ever since I got me a charcoal kettle grill. We gave away that glasstop type stove to get a real gas stove - the former has a thermostat that turns off when it gets too hot - not a good thing for serious cooking when you want constant temp.

Maybe one day when we live in space stations, maybe.

Cheers!

take longer to cook, but it will get there. In time.

i think you are mountain turtle.

it available in japan since 2004 and in professional kitchen much earlier than that.

stop calling it new cooking innovation.

maybe to an mountain turtle, it is new cooking innovation.

Sharp AX-HC1: Superheated Steam Oven

Sharp has a new small oven that uses superheated steam to not only cook and reheat food, but melt excess salt and fat away from meats and other delicious dishes. Sharp quotes up to eight times as much fat removed by cooking a steak in the AX-HC1 ovens than frying in a pan, while reheating tempura and other fried foods removed up to 13% of their oil content.

Sharp will be releasing the oven in the US sometime soonish, although for now the $1,150 is Japan-only. I'm waiting for the oven that uses superheated steam to turn all my food into a nutritionless, guiltless slurry.

Sharp History

The Dream Cooking Appliance for the 21st Century: the Superheated Steam Oven "Roasts" Foods with Water

Sharp developed and introduced the AX-HC1 Superheated Steam Oven that achieves low-calorie, low-salt cooking using superheated steam at about 300°C.

The AX-HC1 has three major features—reduced fat, lower salt, and preservation of vitamin C in foods. It differs from conventional microwave and convection ovens in that it applies heat to food extremely rapidly. Fat contained in the foods melts away, as the salt content is also reduced through the action of the salt diffusing into the water which condenses out of the steam that comes in contact with the surface of the foods and falling away. The AX-HC1 is also able to prevent the oxidation of vitamin C during cooking by completely filling the interior of the oven compartment with superheated steam, thereby reducing the oxygen concentration. This innovative cooking appliance drew a huge positive response mainly from people concerned about health and beauty.
