1) Criminal cases, clients pay an estimated fee upfront. As the trial date is set much later, some will pay by peridodic installments. It happens in civil cases as well. Lawyers are known to give bullshit excuses to adjourn a trial date when the fee has yet to come in.

2) When the State assigns a lawyer as the accused is unable to afford one, the State pays for it but the rate is not the usual rate.

3) The state normally grants the wishes of the accused in capital cases in choice of laywers and with his profile, I suppose he is top of mind.

4) There are many lawyers out there who are better but the fee gap between civil and criminal work is now so wide that criminal work is not attractive. Most criminals are not exactly rich. The rich ones will also tend to go to better lawyers.

5) It doesn't not augur well when criminal practice in Singapore has skewed to this extent. Alternatively we are paying thru our noses for civil work.

I think his book cost about $30? Quite expensive since it is soft cover not very thick and the fonts are large.

But it is a good book that LKY memorie cannot compare with for that kind of similar priced book. The latter tends to be more fictiional and dramatic.

Anything written or said by LKY is fiction and drama and bs. His actions are all that matter - and they are filled with hypocrisy and cruelty.

according to my friend, who is also a lawyer, Subhas is "2nd best" lawyer in singapore for criminal cases.
He does lot of cases not for money, he is just helping them to get a lighter punishment. In fact, most of these cases are "no case", sure gulity one

LKY have many memoirs, in many languages, a good bye (buy), if you require a good door stopper!
