Student who ‘rented out’ his bank account and ATM card in a fix
JOHOR BARU: A student who “rented out” his bank account and ATM card to a woman for RM80 a day ended up being accused as a cheat. Leong Hock Hua, 18, had found out about the opportunity to earn the extra money from the Internet last month. The woman, Michel, who made the offer told him that he would be paid RM80 per day if he allowed her to use his bank account for business transactions.
Hock Hua only realised that his account had been used in a scam when his elder brother Hock Soon told him that people were accusing him of cheating a few days ago. Hock Soon, 20, found out through a discussion board in the Internet that many people had accused Hock Hua of cheating as they had sent money to his account to buy products which they received.
Hock Hua, who has not received a single sen from the rent of his account, has since lodged a police report. Michel was believed to have collected RM20,000 for sale of the non-existent product. She has since absconded and could not be contacted. Michel is a slim medium height Chinese woman in her early twenties with a long black hair.
Leong said he found out about the opportunity from a schoolmate who had initially wanted to do it himself, but was stopped by his mother. A police official confirmed receiving the report.
