KOTA BARU - A student here was allegedly raped by several men impersonating as religious officers.
The victim told the police that the incident occurred at a house in Tanjung Mas here on Sunday.
Kelantan CID chief Asst Comm Lai Yong Heng said the girl had earlier met her boyfriend under a bridge in the same area at about 2am.
Two men who saw the young students approached them and showed what looked like authority cards from the religious department.
An argument started, with the students claiming they were only having a conversation. Furthermore, the youngsters argued, they were at an open public place.
"Since it was dark, the victim and her boyfriend were not sure if the two men were actually from the religious department," ACP Lai said in a statement here yesterday.
"One of the men told the boy to go home. He also told the pair that they will not be detained because they were students," ACP Lai added.
The boy did as he was told while the girl was told that she would be taken to the police station.
"The girl took a ride on a motorcycle belonging to one of the men but was brought to an empty house where she was later gang-raped by five men," ACP Lai said.
He warned the public of men claiming to be from government departments.
