A fat 2009 hongbao for Liu Guodong
According to Lianhe Wanbao, early 2009 could see a huge payout to ex-table tennis coach Liu Guodong for the Olympic silver bagged this year. The amount is pegged from $150,000 to $200,000 for the silver medal.
In his contract inked in early 2007, the amount awarded to Mr Liu is decided according to the colour of the Olympic win.
The award amount will be presented directly to Mr Liu by Ms Lee Bee Wah, president of Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA).

"STTA would honour the terms in the contract," said Ms Lee, addressing the concern that coach Liu had already left STTA.
"STTA will meet up with Liu for a discussion at the end of this year, and present him the award money."
As to whether the award amount was near to $200,000, Ms Lee said that the terms spelled in the old contract were subtle and not prescriptive.
When contacted in Beijing, Mr Liu confirmed the contract's clause for awarding him money for any Olympic win, but he declined to comment on the specific amount of money awarded.
"The contract is with STTA, and since we have not officially discussed the award amount, it is more appropriate for STTA to handle the matter," said Mr Liu.
