HEAVY rainfall since early afternoon on Wednesday caused water levels to rise in a few areas in central and northern Singapore.
Among the affected areas were Bishan, Ang Mo Kio and Yio Chu Kang.
Rainwater filled up roads, void decks, and even a link from Yio Chu Kang MRT station to Nanyang Polytechnic. Student Zhua Zong Sheng, 20, said that he was about to use the link to leave his school when he noticed it.
'The water was up to my kneecap,' said the 1.75m-tall recent graduate. He added that the water entered the area through window-like fences.
The National Environment Agency put up a warning on its website earlier. It said that heavy showers with thunder and gusty winds are expected over many areas of Singapore between 4.10pm and 5.15pm. PUB also said that flash floods may occur in low-lying areas in the event of heavy rain.
