It is cheaper than many other papers overseas and it is in color. Japanese newspapers are in black and white and they cost almost $2. What is more, there is less content in them.

Japan newspapers are written by journalists... professionals... while singapore straits times are "told" what to report by the state.... now you know the reason for the cost differential.....
Given the high volume prints and the higher advertisement costs, plus black and white in Japan, it should be far lower. But................... Content is less than that of Singapore in many ways as they say close to nothing and report more domestic squabbling with no direction in sight.
There's a difference reading Sydney Morning Herald and ST, y'know.
Or even if you compare a conservative paper like The Australian to ST, Murdoch's The Australian is still way better.
Let's put it in this way: Either way, whether an overseas one is liberal or conservative, as long as the country practices free speech, the newspaper(s) are inevitably better than Singapore's.
