Step-dad charged over molest

A MAN was charged on Wednesday with five counts of molesting his step-daughter.

The 40-year-old accused, who cannot be named to protect the victim's identity, allegedly used criminal force to molest the nine-year-old girl three times at their flat in the north in 2005.

The fourth charge states that he hugged the girl, then 11, and touched her breasts around the middle of last year.

He is also alleged to have hugged her and touched her breasts on July 19 last year.

If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to two years or fine or caning or any two punishments if the offence is committed before February 2008.

After Feb 1, 2008, if found guilty, he can be jailed for up to five years or fined or caned or received any combination.

He will appear in court again on June 3.
