Stella Ng insists she's not broke
Xin.sg - Thursday, August 6
Singer-actress Stella Ng recently celebrated the second anniversary of her chocolate cake shop, BLACK As Chocolate. She confirmed that she is engaged in a lawsuit with Awfully Chocolate and proceedings are currently being held in the Singapore courts. The singer refuted the bankruptcy reports and clarified that it was an unfair image portrayed by the company.
After Ng created her own cake label, BLACK As Chocolate, in 2007, she was sued by Awfully Chocolate for her violation of rights in both Taiwan and Singapore. The company demanded a compensation sum of S$280,000 on terms of breaking her contract with them. Her hesitations and refusal to pay up the compensation sum has led the high courts to declare her a bankrupt.
She expressed that conflicting views and opinions caused her to give up her franchise of the Awfully Chocolate cake shop and pointed out that she had won both court cases in Taiwan. Ng believes that her previous older bank statements were produced by the company as evidence in the Singapore courts and was an unfair representation of her current financial status. "The court case is still ongoing! How can I be bankrupt?"
BLACK As Chocolate sells an average of 15,000 cakes a month. To ride on her cake shop's booming success, Ng created a second label, BLACK DESIGNS, to cater specially designed and created cakes for wedding couples and celebrities.
