When one signs up for Max Online broadband, starhub gives you free digital voice home. Two years later when your contract is up and you cancel the broadband connection, they will start charging you for that digital voice home even when you have no broadband connection at all, which the digital voice is dependent on. You must tell them specifically to cancel also the digital voice home otherwise they will charge you for it, even though you have no broadband connection..

Usual sneaky tactics all telcos employ.
Recently they charged me for what ringtone music....wtf I din even know about it except for an SMS asking me to opt out which I was too lazy to reply.
It's not the amount but the principle behind....called up the CS and fuck non stop for 5 mins....pity the guy in the other line but hey too bad.

I have to thank Sing&Tell for educating me, years ago, I was their customer, their FREE, three months this & that, you don't call & inform them, it is automatically charged, same goes for ringtones, whatever.

So, must be very careful, with Starhub the same thing, the DV free...yah!...read the fine print & don't forget to inform them to cancel after the free period...I don't use M1, so I can't comment, bet they are as sneaky.

I am using My Republic now, be careful with their sneaky marketing talk, they will bill you installation charges automatically from your CARD ACCOUNT& the free DV comes with installation charges also, not free, if you start using..I cancel the DV, when the installed & yet they tried to charge my card account. Be careful, you have to give them a Card Account to sign up & they will quietly charge your account.

For customers like me, these tactics have made me very suspicious of "ALL" their promotions. I no longer bother reading about their Specials, discounts, etc opting for the higher prices which may actually be cheaper in the long run:)

Yes! their free this & that, they give you a letter to collect from their AGENT in Funan Mall & you take time off from work to go there & you find yourself in taking a number for there are so many people there, to find out that, the FREE item is out of stock & come back THREE MONTHS later to collect.

Never really understood the point of digital voice. There are already VoIP programs that let you make phone calls over the Internet.

The copper land lines and mobile phones take care of all other phone calls.

Not only VOIP programs but nowadays smart phones have apps that allow these internet calls. Apps like line, vyber, tango can make video calls too.

VOIP software has been available for years already and those voip apps on smart phones are the same too.

I'm using the services of a company called Phoenix Communications. Once you have an account with them you only need to add a four digit prefix to the long distance number you are calling. Their long distance charges are really cheap.

I know there are services like free skype but the advantage of using services like Phoenix is that you only need a normal land line & a phone. It's easy for the older generation to use because it only requires the addition of 4 digits.

Before that it's damn hard enough to read & understand ALL the small print :o

What can we expect from these blood squeezing GLCs?

Just a gentle reminder. Please pay your bill on time.

Remember Credit Bureau Singapore? It may come back to bite you unexpectedly.
