SINGAPORE - Top theatre actress Emma Yong, one-third of the popular musical comedy "Dim Sum Dollies" has died, after a fight with cancer.

Nominated Member of Parliament and fellow actress Janice Koh tweeted late Wednesday night: "We have lost a beautiful actress and one of our most talented performers & singers tonight. Rest in peace, my dear Emma. Miss you..."

Ms Yong, 35, was diagnosed with cancer last year, but appeared to have recovered by the middle of the year, appearing in Dream Academy's Into the Woods in July. However, in December she pulled out of a musical to undergo treatment when the cancer came back.

An established name in Singapore's theatre scene, Ms Yong's acclaimed career spanned a diverse range of roles, from serious drama in Blackbird to lighter fare like Cinderel-LAH and Boeing Boeing, as well as film (The Blue Mansion).

Of her death, actress Neo Swee Lin tweeted: "RIP darling Emma. Angels bear you aloft. our performing family has lost one of our greatest talents."

At least she feels the pain no more, rip.

She is forever young, living in each of our memories.

A talent is taken away from us. RIP.

There is nothing more insidious than cancer. So indiscriminate. You can be fit, healthy, careful about what you eat and it will still strike you. Despite all these decades of research we are still no closer to the cause and the antidote.

Sir, I am sorry to say you probably have not had the privilege of enjoying Emma's live performances, and now that she's gone, you never will.

There is no talent in Singapore. :)

I suspect it was breast cancer or lung cancer. I've noticed that many young women are getting breast cancer. Something is wrong with the Spore diet or environment. This is something the gov't should be looking into but are not because it's more profitable to treat cancer than to prevent it.

so sad...:(. We already have precious few talented people. To lose one so young ....:(

RIP. Thanks for bringing so much laughter and joy as a dimsum dolly!

Shame, she was such a great actress on the stage.
