According to STOMPer Candy, not only was she chased out of this Clementi hair salon after being denied the hair treatment she had been promised, she was also locked in and prevented from leaving when she entered the shop again a few minutes later.
In an email to STOMP today (Nov 25), the STOMPer says:
“I went to Innovation hair salon at Clementi Central to rebond my hair. After the session, there was no difference to my hair.
“It was still wavy and not straight so I returned to the shop a few days later. The female hairstylist readily agreed to redo the rebonding for me.
“On Sunday, I went back to the shop to redo my hair as promised however, I was given these snide comments ‘If you redo rebonding, your hair will be very dry, your hair shaft will explode and be damaged beyond repair. It's your decision.’
“I suggested three options;
(1) give me a refund if there's nothing they can do for me;
(2) let there be a longer interval between chemical treatments so it's less damaging to the hair (I'll come back next month to redo); or
(3) that they do hair treatment for me as well on top of the rebonding.
“They rejected my options. Moments later, a big-sized man (Jeffrey) came into the shop claiming to be the boss, and intimidated me. He also said that even when medical doctors perform surgery it is not 100%. He then shouted across the salon to another staff and asked the staff to open the door, and then asked me to leave.
“I was appalled by their behaviour so I picked up my bag and walked out of the shop. Upon leaving the shop, I realised that I did not have a receipt (which I needed to report to case) for when I rebonded my hair the first time, so I wanted to go back into the shop to ask them for a receipt.
“With my friend waiting outside the shop, I went back in to try to ask them for a receipt.
“Before I could even say anything, the owner and staff, two males and one female, surrounded me, shouted loudly and tried to lock me in the shop.
“Subsequently, one of the male stylists, Terence, lunged at me, wanting to attack until I screamed and said that he was hurting me and that I'm recording the whole incident on my mobile. He then stood at the door, blocking the exit, not allowing me to leave. My friend was outside and he also didn’t want to let my friend come in.
“Terence then had the cheek to call the police. When the police came, I told them my side of the story. The police then asked the shop staff if they could give me a refund but the shop staff refused. The policeman then gave me the number for CASE.
“I called CASE but they told me that all they could do was to send a letter to the hair salon asking them if they could give a refund. CASE then said that if they refused and if I wished to pursue the matter, I would then have to take them to the small claims tribunal.
“Is this the shop's way of evading responsibility? They refused to process a refund, and even if they offered to redo my hair again, clearly after intimidating me and then calling the police, there is no way I would let them touch my hair again.”
