By Elena Chong, Courts Correspondent
A YOUNG man assaulted his former girlfriend when she refused to patch up with him, a district court heard on Friday.
Koay Jie Sheng, 22, met the girl, then 19, at the void deck of Jalan Damai in Bedok on Sept 26, 2007 to persuade her not to break up with him.
She refused. He then took her mobile phone and on seeing a text message from a male colleague, became angry and pushed her against the wall.
He pulled her hair and dragged her, pinning her to the floor and punching her on the upper back and nose.
The victim shouted for help and managed to run home. She related the incident to her mother who called the police.
The victim suffered injuries to her head, face, chest and abdomen. She was given six days' medical leave.
Koay pleaded guilty to causing hurt to the victim, and having 70 obscene films in his computer at his home in Lorong Ah Soo on Oct 4 that year.
Two other charges of criminal intimidation and theft will be considered when he is sentenced later this month.
Lawyer Gurdaib Singh said his client's relationship with the victim soured because of a third party.
He said even till today, Koay, a manager, still loved the victim.
District Judge James Leong called for a probation report on July 31.
