<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->FROM next month, the fare for the shuttle bus service plying the Jurong East to International Business Park (IBP) route will double from the current 20 cents to 40 cents. This was announced in a circular sent by JTC Corporation to the IBP community on Monday.
The circular said the fare review was necessary in view of the increasing population at the IBP, and the need to meet service standards. It added that the fare had not been reviewed since the 1990s, and that a hike was inevitable because of escalating oil prices, the need for a larger fleet of buses and the increase in bus frequency over the years.
Many workers at the IBP now rely on the shuttle service to go to Jurong East for lunch, and pay 40 cents for a round trip. But from next month, a trip to Jurong East will cost double.
