MS TAN ENG LIAN: 'I refer to the report, 'Old folks in S'pore an asset to their families' (April 30). How long must a parent provide for an unmarried graduate in his 30s who still lives under the same roof? How does one ask for money when he refuses to give? How does a parent tell him to move out? When I was younger, I helped support my parents, but in my old age, I continue to support my children. If our children continue to sponge on us when they are employed, where's filial piety?'

But I don't understand why Ms Tan is not resolving her issue within her family, with her husband and children, instead of asking the public.

But I don't understand why Ms Tan is not resolving her issue within her family, with her husband and children, instead of asking the public.

i supposed she is being very smart by asking for opinions so that she would then have a full range of spectrum in terms of views that are generated from the general public whom of course wouldn't have the faintest idea of what is going on in her household, which would ultimately resulting in such predicament in the near future, and i'd think that she would be equally smart enough to avoid using any of the suggestions given and act on her own free will at the end of it all so that she can shape her future to the way she wants it.

and the reason why she wants the opinions is because she wants to listen to the responds, just as how she wanted us to listen to her rantings. the number of responses to her post would serve as a rough gauge of how many people actually listened to her banter, and perhaps, bothered enough to respond
