Singapore now accepts scholarship applications

THE Singapore Embassy is now accepting applications for the Dr. Goh Kong Swee (GKS) scholarship.
To qualify for the selection, interested candidates should directly apply to Singapore universities for admission to the intended course of study.
The course of study should be relevant to the financial sector.
Applicants must have outstanding GCE “A” level or equivalent qualifications acceptable for admission.
Those who are about to enter college and those currently studying in the university are eligible to apply.
Applicants must be fluent in English and preferably below 25 years old.
Each award will cover the minimum period of three to four years required to complete the course.
The award will be reviewed annually subject to satisfactory performance and academic results.
The scholarship provides return airfare, tuition fees, other compulsory fees and an annual allowance.
Application forms can be obtained from the following address: The Technical Cooperation Officer, The Singapore Embassy, 505 Rizal Drive, Bonifacio Global City, 1634 Taguig City, tel. no. (02) 8569922 local 105, Fax (02) 8569932.
Requests for forms must be accompanied by a stamped self-addressed envelope.

Application for the 2010 Dr Goh Keng Swee (GKS) Scholarship is now open from 30 November 2009 to 18 January 2010.
General
The Dr Goh Keng Swee (GKS) Scholarship Fund was set up by the financial community in Singapore in honour of the former Deputy Prime Minister, who fostered Singapore's economic development and growth as a reputable international financial centre. The Dr GKS Scholarship is a private sector scholarship administered by the Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS). Each year, 3 to 4 scholarships are awarded to outstanding individuals from 15 Asia Pacific economies (Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, PRC, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar) to pursue undergraduate studies at local universities in Singapore (i.e., National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University). The course of study should preferably be relevant to the financial sector.
Eligibility
The Scholarship is open to students from Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, PRC, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. Singapore citizens and PRs are not eligible to apply for the Dr GKS Scholarship.
The Dr GKS Scholarship is highly selective. Applicants should fulfil the following criteria:
(a) Concurrently apply for admission to NUS, NTU or SMU for their course of study. Applicants should adhere to the university’s admission deadlines and guidelines;
(b) Demonstrate leadership qualities and possess good co-curricular activities (CCA) records;
(c) Be a citizen/passport holder of the target Asia Pacific economies;
(d) Make private arrangements to sit for the required university admission test
(e.g.,SATand TOEFL), and
(e) Preferably be below 25 years of age.
Duration and Terms of Award
The scholarship will cover the duration of the undergraduate course (3 to 4 years). It provides the following:
(a) Tuition and other compulsory fees;
(b) Airfare (to Singapore and return to home country upon completion of study);
(c) Annual maintenance allowance of SGD$6500;
(d) Hostel allowance based on institution of study; and
(e) Settling-in allowance (one-off expense) of SGD$200 upon arrival in Singapore.
The scholarship award will be reviewed annually and is subjected to satisfactory performance and academic results.
