SINGAPORE: A Singaporean couple have been fined S$24,000 for bringing their dog in and out of Singapore without a licence, as well as lying to AVA officers and obstructing them from carrying out their duty.

The Maltese was brought out of Singapore by its owners Chow Teck Meng and his wife Karen Yip in August this year.

On their return on August 9, they were stopped by an officer at Woodlands Checkpoint.

The dog then had to be quarantined.

But the next day, Chow took the Maltese from the Changi Animal and Plant Quarantine Centre, without the authorities' permission.

Channel NewsAsia understands that when an AVA officer went to their home that night, Yip lied that the dog had run away.

It is believed the Maltese is now with the couple after being quarantined. - CNA/xq
