A married man in Singapore cheated a woman into having sex with him. He first pretended to be an escort agent, then posed as the client.
When the woman, 28, realised it was a scam, the man threatened her with the videos he took during the sexual encounter and sent them to her husband.
Kendrick Liu Kenli, 33, was eventually arrested and charged with seven offences, including threatening to distribute intimate videos, distributing intimate videos, cheating, criminal intimidation and reproducing obscene films.
On Mar. 6, he was sentenced to four years and nine months in jail after pleading guilty to four of the charges. The others were taken into consideration.
According to court documents, Liu is married with a daughter.
In January 2020, Liu put up an advertisement on Locanto titled "Looking for Female Socialite" to look for women to have sex with him.
When the victim responded to the advertisement in December 2020, Liu replied some time later and claimed he was a freelance agent helping his clients look for "companionship".
He said she could earn about S$750 to S$1250 per assignment and told her she would have to spend three to five hours of "physical interaction" with each client.
Liu also claimed that he has "a lot of clients who are professionals and wealthy" and would pay more if she had sex with them.
After she was persuaded, Liu made her send explicit photos and videos of herself for him to show his clients.
When they brought up her husband during one of their conversations, Liu claimed that he knew people working in the same industry, and asked for his contact information.
On Jan. 7 2021, Liu told her he found her an assignment for the next day, but the client had "special requests", including filming the session for his collection.
Liu said she would be paid S$950 for the session, adding that she would be given an additional S$200 for agreeing to the recording.
After some thought, the victim agreed.
There was no such client, and it was Liu who picked up the victim the next day.
They had sex in a hotel room, and Liu took the opportunity to record five video clips and take three photographs of the engagement.
Liu didn't pay her the next day, and she belatedly realised she had been cheated.
She confronted him on Feb. 2, 2021.
She asked Liu if he was the person she had sex with, and Liu admitted that it was him all along.
He claimed he was "testing" her out, so he could "plan which clients are suitable" for her.
In reality, he was not an agent for escorts and never had clients.
The victim refused to continue working with Liu and said she could no longer trust him.
The next day, Liu demanded that the victim send him a video of her pleasuring herself. When she declined, he said it was "an order" and "not a request".
Liu threatened to circulate their sex videos online, but she did not comply.
He then sent a 21-second explicit video of the victim to her husband.
Her husband asked Liu what he wanted and offered to pay him as long as he promised not to circulate the video, as he could not risk his wife's career.
He offered Liu S$10,000 and begged Liu not to spread the photographs and videos.
Liu then sent more videos of their sexual encounter to the victim’s husband and threatened to sell them.
He also claimed that he would disseminate the photographs and videos to the victim's colleagues.
This incident caused the couple much stress. Due to her infidelity, the victim's relationship with her husband took a toll.
The victim made a police report on Feb. 3, 2021, and Liu was arrested on Mar. 4 at his workplace after police traced hotel records.
The prosecution revealed that Liu had cheated other women, including a single mother who needed money to clear her debts.
He offered her money in exchange for lewd videos of her, but he didn't pay her when he got hold of the videos. He also used them to threaten her.
In court, Liu applied for a deferment of his sentence as his wife is now six weeks pregnant and needs time to deal with private matters, Shin Min Daily News reported.
The judge increased his bail to S$22,500 and allowed Liu to start serving his sentence on Mar. 20.
