S'pore Catholic Church calls for calm after priest allegedly punched by churchgoer

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Singapore has called for calm and urged the public to avoid speculation after a priest at the Church of the Holy Spirit was hit by a 22-year-old man.
According to a statement by the Catholic Church, the incident happened after the 9:30am Mass.
The priest has been attended to by medics, and apart from some slight swelling on his face, is safe and well.
The police are also investigating the matter.
CNA reported that the priest is Father Cary Chan, one of the church's four resident priests.
He was quoted as saying that he had been punched by the suspect outside church in the head.
Chan added that the blow caught him off guard and knocked his glasses off.
He also said the suspect is a regular churchgoer who is partially blind and has special needs.
Chan was further quoted as saying,"He likely did not recognise who he punched. I know him very well. I think he didn’t recognise me. He can’t exactly see who you are."
A photos shared by a Mothership reader showed a police car and a few police officers within the compound of the church.

The police have arrested the man for an offence of public nuisance and will be referring him to IMH for further assessment.
