SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Home Affairs said Masyhadi Mas Selamat, the son of Singapore Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) leader Mas Selamat Kastari, has been deported from Indonesia following his arrest there.
The 24-year-old Singaporean has been brought back to Singapore, and is now under investigation, said the ministry in a statement issued on Monday evening.
The authorities are working to ascertain if Masyhadi has been involved in activities that are against the security of Singapore.
The statement said he was deported from Indonesia on October 30.
He had left Singapore for Indonesia with others in his family in 2002. They went there to join Mas Selamat, who had fled Singapore following investigations into the Singapore JI network in December 2001.
Mas Selamat and his family had taken refuge in Indonesia with the support of the Indonesian JI network. After Mas Selamat was arrested in Indonesia in 2003, his family members, with the exception of Masyhadi, returned to Singapore.
