A SOLDIER, accused by his wife of being an adulterous man and frequently bashing her with a hammer, shocked the mother of three with an SMS declaring he was divorcing her with a talak tiga (irrevocable divorce). The woman, who identified herself only as Siti, told Harian Metro she received the SMS about a month ago, soon after she sought help from the village head to advise her husband about his wayward behaviour.

Siti claimed her husband used to bring women to their house in Sabak Bernam over the 11 years they were married and would behave intimately with his girlfriends, even in front of the children. Whenever she questioned him about the women, her husband would kick her and beat her up, often using a hammer. The last straw came when he brought home a 21-year-old woman he claimed to be his “foster sister” at about 10.30pm one night, and cuddled her in front of the family.

Siti said she had made at least eight police reports against her husband. They were declared divorced at the lower syariah court in Sungai Besi on Nov 10 and the man had since left home. Siti added, however, he also left behind debts amounting to more than RM15,000. Her eldest daughter, aged nine, had stopped schooling to take care of the two younger ones, aged eight and two. The youngest girl suffers from a lung infection and has to undergo monthly treatment at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur.
