In this era of climate change, cyclones will only get stronger & thus flooding & mudslides is to be expected, & worse - from June to Dec, it is cyclone season whereby cyclones will form up on a more regular basis. Therefore, Humankind must take meteorological warnings seriously. We have no ability to change Nature, but we can still adapt to it.
To save lives & property:-
1. Get a topographical map & look for higher grounds to park cars, as well as sites for citizens to evacuate to.
2. Standby any precious goods or furniture to be moved to a higher floor if available. If not, look for higher floor warehousing for storage.
3. Avoid loitering or living near rivers during a cyclone, as the water level will rise with the amount of rain falling upon hills or mountains.
4. Standby also bottled drinks to last at least min 2 days, because when flooding occurs, the water supply system may be contaminated, & would need to be purged clean for drinking.
For Singapore, we have a good drainage system, thus only little flooding. Only ponding occurs.
1. Avoid any canals & do not attempt to swim in it as the waters are fast flowing, so too the undercurrents.
2. Study if one is living in low lying areas that are susceptible to ponding. If so, then move goods, cars & properties to higher levels, & especially do not park cars under basements as none can tell how heavy a rainfall may be, and cause water levels to build up in such enclosed underground places, should the drainage system there get choked up with litter.
