There is nothing noble to cheer for.

Gambling business is out-of-date investment , only to desperate countries that already out of ideas.

Thinking back, Havana in cuba was a heaven for thugs and whores to die for.
But it is no more, because the fidels saved the day.

So-called IRs are service industry, it provides low-paying jobs.

The reason why it attracts real third-world labor is the money exchange rate.
Local singaporeans cannot have the last laugh. Sing dollars simply too small for them.

Gambling will be forever once you make one or two but PAP cannot last forever.
The 100 dollar ERP to the gambling house will drop someday !

The impact of big time gambling can only feel it in 20 years time.....

Further, local singaporeans will not get anything out of it .

Taxi drivers become rich ? Most of them are lazy bums and have unhealthy bodies, there are too many taxis in singapore in comparison to other small countries.

Some lucky FT hookers may make it rich, the rest either got AIDs or spread VDs throughout singapore.
First class education is a big shame, college girls and boys are just wasting their time burning midnight hours !

In addition , the two so-called IRs will also destroy Domestic economy. Just wait and see. More big shops will close down sooner.

Chinese saying---thrifty in eating, but gamble heavily !

The two Irs will not bring true wealth to the local singaporeans.

PUB bills, electicity bills, conservancy fees, TV license fee, 3/4 tank rule, ERP, COE, COV,,,,,,etc, will continue to hike.....

The two IRS only benefits the PAP govt. They have the last laugh.....good economy...means big pay hike .

20 years from now, the casinos moguls and rich PAP baboons will rule the city if voters are still dreaming !

bring jobs to 6000 ppl but ruin the lives of 600,000 or more?

What kind of moral gov is that?

The kind that levies additional taxes on the people to "help the poor" but at the same time give themselves pay raises.

If you look at the situation closely, u will notice that the gahmen define PRs (mostly foreign trash) as LOCALS, so theoretically it should be bring jobs to 6,000 FOREIGNERS.

Its a bit too late for Spore to hop on the casino bandwagon. Same goes for the F1 as well. Every country has made several rounds of their money pot & now Spore is trying to emulate these countries' feat.
What's next? Will Spore begin to embrace legalised & structured prostitution like in Amsterdam?

The presence of 3 huge casinos on the Island will definitely spawn a range of support industries across a whole host of products and services

It's up to Singaporeans to spot the opportunities and make a killing by getting in early.

The situation is similar to the 70s and 80s when hugh electronics multinationals set up shop in sinkieland. Although they were manufacturing what were considered to be high end products at the time, they still required a whole host of low tech support eg packaging material, metal stamping and tooling, anti-static containers, hepa filters, material handling systems and so on.

Many Singaporeans became millionaires on the back of these multinationals. Even I managed to make a tidy sum by providing capital for a company that degreased equipment used to handle the platters that went into the hard drives of companies like Seagate, Conner Peripherals, Western Digital etc.

If Sinkies want to take get rich, they should stop whinging and complaining about the casinos and put on their thinking caps so they can take advantage of their presence.

Complaining in this forum won't make the casinos go away. Instead, you should grab the opportunities that present themselves.

I just remembered a good friend of mine who retired before I did in the late 80s.

He made a ton of money making this contraption and selling it to the electronics industry :

It's a conductive wrist strap designed to prevent static build up. It's low tech and simple to make. However, the profits were astronomical at the time and he retired a very rich man.

There was a lot of bad publicity surrounding MNCs in the 70s and 80s just as there is today about singapore's casinos. MNCs were denounced by the working class as exploiters of the poor and the weak. The fact remains that many Singaporeans owe their considerable wealth to these conglomerates. They started off working for them and when opportunities presented themselves, they went from being an employee to becoming a vendor. It proved to be a lucrative switch for many.
