We were part of a group invited to the Singapore Turf Club for an evening of fun and excitement , but this turned up to be a most boring event for us. Except for the racing which captivated us ,the rest has been a disaster. After taking our seats at the Committee room where the senior staff are supposed to be friendly and play host , they turned up to be so snobbish .
Without even introducing themselves to us being their guests , they tucked themselves in immediately when dinner is ready at 7pm. Wining and dining seems to be their most enjoyable task , they shower themselves with wines ,beer, liquor? and all kinds of concoctions whilst sinking their teeth into the buffet spread in a hurry beating the invited guests to it. We were observing them going for repeats and they appear to be a bunch of hungry ghosts.
Surprisingly the Chairman introduced himself when he walked past our table and we had a brief chat ,we then realised that he's the Chairman but his "lieutenants" are simply not interested in fostering friendship or promote the club's facilities. though we find the premises interesting for our clients if we were to book their corporate rooms for functions but with that kind of attitude from top to bottom , we will not bother to select this venue. Amongst the group seated in the table near us, one of our company group VP recognised their President and snr.vice presidents were all in the same table eating heartily away not bothered by the presence of guests who were eager to find out more about the club's facilities.
We could even hear one of their colleaques, a tanned pock marked chap bragging about his success in punting , he carried a walkie talkie and still in his staff jacket . He colleague noticed we were watching and promptly called out for this "Paul" guy to lower his volume.
It was really a bad experience at the club, we will give this a venue a miss for all our coporate entertainment.
