Snatch theft strands family from China
Compiled by ANN TAN, P. ARUNA and A. RAMAN
A FAMILY from China are in a dilemma after they lost their passports and money to a snatch thief while on holiday in Kuala Lumpur, Sin Chew Daily reported. The problem began when the thief grabbed the handbag belonging to Liu Li Juan, 36, who was with husband Liu Jin, 51, and their four-year-old daughter Yun Yi.
The incident reportedly happened in front of the National Theatre in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 4. “All our passports, credit cards, RM4,000, 5,000 reminbi, US$1,000, a mobile phone, three identification cards and three return flight tickets were all in the bag. “My wife also fell down and grazed her elbow.
It all happened in a split second and we didn’t notice the number plate of the motorcycle,” Liu Jin said. Liu Jin said they had to worry about accommodation and travelling expenses since they had no money with them now. The daily said the family arrived in Malaysia on Oct 2 and are supposed to return to China on Oct 9.
