Grab partners such as driver or rider, security guard, cleaner, hawker, janitor. All these are job right?

The success cases are about 10%, the rests will go around begging family members, relatives and all your friends will run away
No big deal to the insurance company. They pay u nothing when u don't sell. At the very least, u will give them some initial sales from your friends and family. It's a no brainer for insurance company to 'hire' you.

I am a graduate of SMU, and have trouble finding a job for 2 years.

I am wondering if there are any opportunities here because I have been looking on craigslist, indeed, jobsdb, regionUP, all for jobs but I suspect most of them are fake or just recruiters trying to collect resumes for the companies which are not even hiring.

I have a Bachelor’s in Accountancy and Finance from SMU.

At 29 years of age, I don’t see much opportunities in the PMET sector especially for males.

I don’t know why. But I think employers generally prefer females in the accountancy sector because they will not shout out as loud as males, and are generally perceived as more meticulous than men.

I am deeply worried that my 2 years of unemployment gap will affect my future career (if it even exists now).

Right now, I am feeling that local government do not support unemployed workers, and just cover it up with the news saying that unemployment is low. Truth is many people are underemployed.

I tried approaching friends and family, but none of them have opportunities for me. Instead they keep telling me supposedly helpful advice like “have you tried this… or that” etc.

Almost implying that it’s my fault that I did not hang on to my previous job.

Also, I don’t have much faith in the governmental national job bank. Seems to be touch and go in this pro-business government.

Globally, I do sense restructuring trend affecting many young people like me, especially in Spain, Greece and other cities. In some cities like NY or London, people at my age are being paid peanuts or working for free as interns, just to get a foot into the door of corporations.

In fact, one may argue that Singapore has real jobs but only as casino croupiers and waiters.

That is not a career many want, yet they do it just to get by. This is highly unhealthy for the economy to keep ‘pushing down’ the burden to the young. Singaporeans are smart and good, why should they be ‘cheap’ and devalued by our own government?

If businesses are so powerful already, why is the government not empowering the people to balance this?

Why is the employment market ‘rosy’ in Singapore when there are so many people complaining on your website?

I feel the government has failed us all. Especially my generation who graduated in the post-recession.

Quite honestly if this is the sort of vibes emanating from him, I wouldn't make an offer to him as well. All he did was just whining and coming up with strange theories on why he couldn't secure a job. He conveniently blames his lack of offer on females who can shout louder than him and employer sexism think ladies are more meticulous. That's BS. A lot of guys are in the Finance department as well.

Then there's that nonsense about Singapore only left casino croupiers and waiter jobs left. Come on lah, most of the casino croupiers already laid off and their employment numbers are not high to begin with. Even if he cannot find a Finance job, can't he just take up many of the temp jobs first. He's 29, surely taking up something first is better than just sit around for 2 years do nothing waiting for the Finance job?

He meant the opposite - that the females will not shout as loud as males. But I get your drift.

The truth is he left his previous job without having secured a new job, and have since been sitting around for 2 years. Perhaps his previous job wasn't accounts related.

LOL yes indeed I misread. And this guy is really childish, accounting is a corporate office job. Whether male or female which company is going to accept an office staff who goes around shouting regardless of department?

Generally I don't recommend youngsters quit without securing a job first, but that by itself isn't a big deal. What I can't understand is how can a 29 year old guy just sit around for 2 years without even taking up any temp work to do? I suppose his parents are feeding him to this date...

There are many graduate scums like him in Sinkieland. First, he must ditch that graduate mindset of his. The degree is just a piece of toilet paper and is more of an obstacle if he had wasted two precious years of his life because of it. There are many many money-making opportunities around if only he had used his brains to figure something out. But instead, he spent his time looking for a stupid job and complaining. What a loser!
