The milk contamination situation in China is widening and has caused the following products have been recalled either by AVA or wholesalers IN SINGAPORE. You would know of some of them but news of others may not have made the media yet. For now, curb your cravings for the following:

• Mentos Bottled Yoghurt
• Dove Chocolates
• Oreo Wafer Sticks
• Mon Milk
• Dutch Lady Sterilised Milk
• Wall's (different branding in some other countries) ice creams- All Natural Mango; Mini poppers; Magnum; Moo Sandwich; Mini cornetto
• Youcan icecreams
• White Rabbit Creamy Candy

If you have any of the above around the house, it's probably best to get rid of them or at least hold off eating them until the situation is clearer.

If there are no casualties reported in China, all of us will still be happily eating to our ill health. How come all these were not detected in the first place? Complacency? Sleeping or what? Very difficult to check on everything? Cost? Manpower and expertise?

It is increasingly clear that we are paying our ministers (in this case MND Mah Bow Tan) millions each year so they can lay down procedures to manage the usual problems. When something is as massive as this, it slips under their radar. We lose out twice over.

It boggles the mind that 66.6% of us still return leeches like these to parliament time after time.

i think the AVA only does random testing.
and they put the onus on the importers to declare the safety and compliance of the incoming goods.

so, in short, AVA is probably just another lazy or understaffed outfit.

I just went to the AVA website. Only three products mentioned. Where did you get the list of Mars, Snickers, Walls etc?

First, more will emerge (SLOWLY) as the hours tick by. Second, as I'd said at the start of the thread, some of the products mentioned were recalled by the wholesalers and not yet looked into by AVA. And I did not actually say 'Mars'.

Good idea but it would not happen because this would cost the PAPzis a big chunk of their portable power. This aspect of high ministerial pay has not been much discussed but I believe the PAPzis have given themselves pay because money gives them power beyond their time in office.

In other words, even if we voted them out in 2011, we would still be under their immense financial influence for some time to come. They must have seen how the whites in South Africa still call the shots despite having lost political power in 1994 because they have the wealth the blacks lack.

For this reason, they would be very wary of allowing any tinkering of their obscene pay.
