Slithery surprise: Man finds 5m-long King cobra under sofa

KUALA PILAH: A man did not expect that a relaxing afternoon in front of the television yesterday would turn out to be an unforgettable experience due to a slithery discovery at his house.
The 40-year-old man was shocked to find a five metre-long King cobra under a sofa at his Public Works Department quarters unit in Ulu Bendul here.
In the noon incident, the house owner was said to be resting in the living room when he saw some movement under the sofa which turned out to be the cold blooded reptile.
Kuala Pilah Civil Defence Force Lieutenant Mohamad Ghazali Abd Rahim said the team received a distress call about 12.20pm and four personnel were rushed to the scene.
"The 40-year-old man noticed movement under the sofa while he was watching television," he said when contacted by Berita Harian today.
The team used a trap to secure the snake which weighed about7kg and measured 5m-long.
Ghazali said the venomous snake was handed over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) for further action.
"We want to remind the public to immediately contact 999 whenever they are faced with danger or disasters," he said.
