<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->A MAN who molested three female students by lifting up their skirts and grabbing the buttocks of two of them was jailed for 12 months yesterday.
Tan Wen Zhong, 23, who pleaded guilty, preyed on the women who were returning home late at night or in the wee hours of the morning.
The unemployed man first struck on March 11 when he followed a 20-year-old woman into a lift in Tah Ching Road in Jurong West.
Tan lifted up her skirt and when she turned around to face him, he told her to turn back. He exited the lift on the eighth floor, and she reported the offence to the police the next day.
On March 24, he and an 18-year-old polytechnic student took a lift at nearby Yuan Ching Road.
When the student got out, he followed her to the stairs and grabbed her buttocks and lifted up her skirt. She ran home and called the police.
A week later, he molested a 24-year-old student at the junction of Yuan Ching Road and Ho Ching Road.
Pleading for leniency, Tan said he was ashamed of what he had done and assured the court that this would be his last brush with the law.
District Judge Jill Tan told him: 'I hope so. You are looking at caning the next time you come back.'
Tan, who has a similar previous conviction, could have been jailed for up to two years or fined or caned, or received any combination of such punishments on each of the charges. ELENA CHONG
