SINGAPORE: Six SBS double-decker buses were burnt beyond recognition at the Ang Mo Kio Bus Depot at 3.30am on Sunday.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it dispatched two fire engines and 20 fire fighters to the scene.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.

No casualties were reported and the cause of the fire is being investigated.

A spokesperson from SBS said the loss of the buses will have some impact on its operations.

However, SBS will try to minimise inconvenience to commuters by redeploying buses where possible.

The total cost of the six buses is believed to be about S$3 million as each new double decker bus costs about half a million dollars.

SBS has been burning

... holes in commuters pockets since 2002

6 buses, looks like a case or arson..in the end commuters suffer..someone got to pay for the replacement..

likely to be a cummuter who is angry with bad service and never ending bus fare.

way to go blow up more bus.

Probably the work of foreign workers in SBS. Vehicle burning and vandalising public property is a favourite pastime of disgruntled people in third world countries. With so many of them running loose in Singapore, this possibility cannot be ruled out.

was it the first time the double decker buses burned down?

i vaguely remember other incidents whereby individual buses burned due to overheating in either the engine or the aircon dept.

Maybe some Sinkie DU LAN of overcrowding and BO of foreign workers in the buses every morning.

If AssMrt trains go up in flames soon, that will confirm my theory!

Clementi SBS bus ON fire....

most are just overheating and the smoke we see is just the steam coming from the radiator.

How in the world did a bus costs $500,000 each?

Would it be more cost effective to buy 5 regular bus at $100,000 each with 2.5 times capacity of the double decker?
