SINGAPORE: Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong described Sitoh Yih Pin, who is the advisor to the Potong Pasir grassroots organisations, as a true servant of the constituency.
Writing on the MParader Facebook page, Mr Goh revealed that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had wanted Mr Sitoh to contest a GRC in the coming elections.
And Mr Goh said he too encouraged Mr Sitoh to do so as he deserved to be a Member of Parliament but Mr Sitoh wants to stay in Potong Pasir as he loves the constituency.
Mr Goh said Mr Sitoh will give it one more try.
It will be Mr Sitoh's third attempt. He lost to Mr Chiam See Tong with 48 per cent of votes in 2001 and 44 per cent in 2006.
Instead of facing Mr Chiam See Tong, who is the constituency's MP since 1984, Mr Sitoh will meet his wife, Mrs Lina Chiam, who will be running in the ward.
Mr Chiam intends to a lead a team to contest neighbouring Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC.
