<!-- story content : start --> SINGAPORE'S largest ticketing service provider Sistic.com Pte Ltd is being probed for anti-competitive practices by abusing its dominant position in the ticketing service market through various exclusive agreements. On Tuesday, it was slapped with a Proposed Infringement Decision (PID) by the Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS), for likely infringement under Section of the Competition Act, which bars a dominant firm from engaging in anti-competitive business practices that result in harmful effects. Sistic sells tickets ranging from pop concerts, musicals, theatre, family entertainment to sports. It currently handles more than 90 per cent of all events staged in Singapore. CCS said in a statement on Tuesday that Sistic has separate agreements with The Esplanade and the Singapore Sports Council 'which contain explicit restrictions requiring all events held at the Esplanade and the Singapore Indoor Stadium respectively to use Sistic as the sole ticketing service provider.' 'Furthermore, it had 17 other agreements with event organisers that contained explicit restrictions requiring the event organisers concerned to use Sistic as the sole ticketing service provider for all their events,' added the anti-competition watchdog.

CCS said ticketing service providers such as Sistic act as middlemen between two groups of customers - the event organisers and the ticket buyers - by providing them a platform to buy and sell tickets. 'When key venues such as The Esplanade and the Singapore Indoor Stadium are required to use Sistic, event organisers who wish to hold their events at these venues have no choice but to sell tickets through Sistic,' said the CCS, which also noted that Sistic raised its booking fees for ticket buyers by 50 per cent to $3 per ticket in January 2008. The PID is a written notice setting out the basis on which the Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) has arrived at the proposed decision. Sistic is given eight weeks to respond to the CCS. Following that, CCS will consider the merits of the party's representations before finalising its decision on whether there has been an infringement of the Act.

Why wait until 90%? Might as well wait until 100%. Compeititon already destroyed and therefore they can increase the price by 50%. It took 20 years for someone to realise that not everyone is linguistically inclined.
