Telco subscriber's confidentiality breached

I AM exasperated by SMS messages from unknown property agents informing me of upcoming launches of properties.
When I call the numbers back, the calls go to an answering machine. Only on one occasion did an agent answer. He told me that he got my number from SingTel.
I was a SingTel customer until the end of last year when I switched to StarHub.
I didn't receive such SMSes when I was still with SingTel. It started only in the last two months after I had changed service providers.
Upon checking with StarHub, I was advised to keep five of the SMS messages before making a police report. I would then be able to submit the report to StarHub which would follow up with the sender of the messages.
The problem is that each time I get such messages, it is from a different sender.
I wonder what other personal details SingTel could have released to unknown parties. I find such marketing tactics an infringement of my privacy.
I hope that I will not receive any more SMSes from unknown agents marketing other products or services.
It is infuriating because consumers are helpless and vulnerable as we don't know who has our personal particulars.
