<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I WAS told that if I signed up for the SingTel Football Frenzy package at $15.90 a month, I would have free access to 24/7 channel on TV, online and mobile. I had no problems with the set-top box and watching it on my TV, but what really frustrated me was the online and mobile parts.
First, I followed all instructions from pamphlets, online FAQs and even customer service officers but I saw no free online matches anywhere. Replays are still charged at $3 and live matches at $6, even for Football Frenzy Pack subscribers, no different from the a la carte menu.
The next thing that really exasperated me was when I tried to stream the 24/7 channel on my mobile phone. Although it was touted as free access with no data charges incurred for Football Frenzy Pack subscribers while streaming the channel, I was horrified to note more than $500 worth of data charges incurred on my bill. All I did was stream the channel; I did not even attempt to surf anywhere else.
I have made numerous hotline calls, only for an officer to put me on hold for minutes on end so he could search for the terms and conditions, or transfer me to another officer. This shows that SingTel staff themselves are unsure of this package, even though pamphlets and FAQs urge us to call them should we encounter any problem.
With the announcement of SingTel winning English Premier League broadcast rights, I am worried that SingTel may not be ready to provide a complete football experience for fans. It would be disastrous for fans if these simple issues cannot be sorted out.
