Stomper Concerned Singaporean was left "absolutely horrified" when she saw a cinemagoer with her feet propped up on the seat in front of her, at Golden Village (GV) Gemini in Great World City on May 26 at 10.10pm.

In a photo shared by the Stomper, a woman is seen lounging in her seat with both her bare feet up on the headrest of the seat in front, while holding a box of popcorns.

Concerned Singaporean said: "I was absolutely horrified to see a cinemagoer treat the comfortable seats in the cinema as her footstool.

"Even her partner did not correct her for this graceless behaviour.

"Have we turned into a thankless society who treats public property as their own just because we have paid to use it?

"This is absolutely shameful.

"Maybe home is the only safe space where one can watch movies these days."

In response to a Stomp query, a GV spokesman said: "At GV, since 2015, we ran several cinema etiquette campaigns through pre-show screen ads reminding our patrons to be considerate to other movie-goers in the movie theatres.

"The most recent cinema etiquette video on GV screens is by the Singapore Kindness Movement titled 'Ben and Bang'.

"When encountered with any inappropriate behaviour in the cinemas, patrons are advised to alert or seek the assistance of staff or manager on duty."

Man arrested after using taped belt to 'fish' money from Arumugam Road temple donation boxes

A 69-year-old man was caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) taking money from donation boxes in a temple along Arumugam Road, and arrested by the police on Thursday (May 31).

In the footage which was uploaded online, the man is seen using a makeshift contraption — a belt covered with double-sided tape — to 'fish' money out from a donation box at about 2am on May 23.

He returned at about 2.45am on May 27 and took money from two donation boxes using the same method.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the affected temple is the Kim Hong Temple, which has a rich history spanning more than 60 years.

A spokesman for the temple, Mr Dai Yin Min said that he would tabulate the money from the donation boxes every month.

When he last checked the boxes, he found only four pieces of notes and felt that something was amiss.

He immediately checked through the CCTV and discovered that someone had stolen from the boxes last Wednesday (May 23).

Mr Dai said that after scouring through the camera footage, he found out that the man had started taken money from the temple at least four to five times, and the first incident happened before March.

He said:

“The three boxes at the temple were all targeted, and we lost thousands in donations.”

Mr Dai lamented that the incident came at an unfortunate time as the land lease is set to expire at the end of the year, and the temple is currently raising funds in an effort to extend the term.

He also revealed that the temple staff had initially intended to lay an ambush and capture the man red-handed.

The police said in an official statement that it had arrested a 69-year-old man for his alleged involvement in a series of theft along Arumugam Road.

It had received a report about a man stealing from donation boxes at about 3pm on May 24.

Officers from the Bedok Police Division managed to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Upper Boon Keng Road on May 30.

During the arrest, a pair of blue slippers, a jacket, black non-sticky tape, a can of contact adhesive, double-sided tape and scissors were also seized.

The suspect was charged in court on Thursday (May 31).

If convicted, he may be jailed for up to three years, fined, or both.

Residents of the Pinnacle@Duxton are on the lookout for a serial vomiter who has been dirtying the carpark for over two months.

Someone would vomit at the staircase of the carpark three to four days every week, and a resident even saw a pile of faeces.

A resident who asked to remain anonymous said that there are nightlight spots opposite the block, and suspected that vomits could be the handiwork of a drunk patron.

A resident who stays in Block C, Madam Xu, 78, told Lianhe Wanbao that beginning from November 2017, there would often be a pile of vomit would mysteriously appear at the staircase around dawn.

Other times, there would even be faeces.

She added:

“I go out to jog every morning, and I will go past the carpark on my way back.

“It smells horrible and it’s disgusting.”

Madam Xu said that she saw vomit at the exact same location last week as well, and suspects that the acts to be done by the same person.

Another resident, Madam Liang, 68, slammed the culprit for being inconsiderate, regardless of whether his intentions to soil the place were deliberate or not.

A cleaner at the block revealed that he had found vomit at the place on multiple mornings, and took pictures to inform the management.

In response to the inconsiderate acts, Tanjong Pagar Town Council has placed several notices up at the lift lobby of the carpark, to remind residents to keep the place clean.

The notice also encouraged residents to inform the town council immediately should they see anyone vomiting in the premises.

When reports visited the venue, they found stains on the walls left by the vomit, and there was also a strong nauseating stench.

Those motorists have no right to complain, when they could've easily dispatched him with their vehicle. Missed the opportunity and then whine, typical sinkies!
