An ‘interesting’ job has landed one 50-year-old man in jail.
Ng Chye Ming’s job was to be a lookout for hookers from China at Geylang Lorong 24 and 27.
One of the prostitutes from China, 38-year-old Sun Qiuxia, was his girlfriend and he had slashed her face with a knife after she had demanded a breakup, reported Lianhe Wanbao.
Ms Sun arrived in Singapore in April 2010 and got to know Ng via a friend in December that year.
She had engaged his lookout services and soon the two began to develop a relationship and became lovers, reported the Chinese daily.
During investigations, Ng admitted he received the names and contact numbers of 18 prostitutes from China from a man and was told to act as a lookout for them.
The paper said he would provide information to the prostitutes such as when police raids occurred.
He was charging each prostitute $100 a month.
Investigations showed that he would warn prostitutes by sending a coded text message and even let them know when the coast was clear to resume their work.
On 17 March 2011, Ms Sun had an argument with Ng and texted him not to look for her again.
Ng was enraged and went to Geylang Lorong 24 to look for her. He dragged Ms Sun into a taxi and went home which was actually located nearby at Geylang Lorong 16, reported the Chinese daily.
Around 2am that night, the two began arguing over money and Ms Sun accused Ng of treating her like a sex slave.
The angry man then grabbed a 9cm knife and slashed her left cheek.
According to court documents, Ng had also threatened to kill her.
The Lianhe Wanbao report said Ms Sun called the police after her face was slashed and was sent to hospital.
