There is NO 'Huat' to Humankind when the best shortest trade routes are blocked by natural disasters or manmade, which will only eventually cause bottlenecks & chokepoints upon the seas, such as in anchorage points facing weather conditions & waiting times for goods to be unloaded....
Costs will HAVE to go up, as Shipping logistic firms are NOT charity orgs. They have overheads to bear - ships, maintenance, fuel, labor, custom duties, etc.
ULTIMATELY, such costs WILL have to be passed on to consumers...
Logistic firms DO try to keep costs low, under FREE MARKET principles, or else they will bankrupt should their logistic costs be HIGH, as in a free market, MOST will choose the supply chains that have the lowest costs...
HOWEVER, may Humanity NOT live in fear. Chaos, calamities manmade or natural CAN be overcome. It just a matter of INNOVATIVE & CREATIVE thinking, that EACH Human has been gifted with, should they wish to do so.
Eg:- if there is a drought within the Panama canals that cause the sea water to be lower, logistics conglomerates that had invested billion$ in port infrastructures may consider cloud seeding, to assist in raising sea levels & at the least adapt & change the weather conditions within that area.
Also, in the worst calamity, there still exists LAND BRIDGES that cargoes & trade can still be conducted, as our ancient ancestors had done, till favorable conditions become available. It's just a matter of choosing the LEAST political strife nations to do such.
Be calm. Be cool. For the average consumers, prices may rise, but in the end, if prices rise too far for the consumer to bear & pockets emptied with no savings left for rainy days, the markets will go into a tailspin of DEFLATION & STAGNATION.
Thus may biz enterprises be aware - either share the pain by lowering costs & yet still be able to afford a Honda than a Ferrari, OR go bust & be hunted down like dogs by creditors & banks demanding payments.
