Singaporeans must save fetuses from abortion to avoid Miserable Nation/ Extinction situation.
Sounds like U have brought up a legal conundrum, I suggest U go ask your lawyer friend or some trust worthy legal professional for advise.
In any case, if people dare to have sex before marriage, then why the hurry to cover it up just because baby is coming?: anyone who knows maths anyhow will smell the rat sooner or later, so please don't be too overconfident about using shot gun marriages to cover for such fact.
That said, even from a practical point of view, Singapore urgently needs it's VWOs to start orphanages, since there are 12,000plus abortions conducted in Singapore per year (mostly for social reasons)(a third of the annual number of births) and Singapore has a dire shortage of babies (birth rate a dismal 1.12/ female (iirc)), so rather than overspending on IVF subsidies/ hospital healthcare (pioneer generation package), perhaps some concern should be given to unborn fetuses. Something also tells me that many women who abort their fetuses end up emotionally scarred, maybe that is also one reason why the BBC journalist confirmed that Singaporeans are miserable (emotionless) creatures/ droids, too many emotionally damaged women post abortion on that train, nobody wanted to face their guilt that a woman with morning sickness reminded them of: as wild as this speculation sounds, it does match the present situation.
Think we should save the fetuses to save this nation. As for your friend, his is a pretty complex case to digest, perhaps he might get a better perspective about his legal rights and responsibilities in this situation: the 'marriage' he is looking forward to is after all a plainly legal agreement in the Singapore context (allow to buy HDB), unless there are some religious undertones to this decision right?
Your friend however, is indeed lucky to have you showing concern and seeking answers.
And of course, having the option of VWO run orphanages, less pregnant teenager/ women would desperately choose abortion as a means of euthanasia for their unwanted fetuses. A life is snuffed out, and no mum-to-be can ever deny that. All moms to be, unable to bring up a child due to unfortunate circumstance, should always have the open option of either well run VWO orphanages or licensed adoption.

Acutally if it's really what he wants then I can respect that. What I'm more concerned about is what happens when someday the biological father decides to show up and mess things up. I also don't want to see my friend being treated as a lifesaver because if the girl agrees, it's obvious that it's not out of love for my friend.
P.S. we're working adults.
