Singaporean woman critically injured in Australia car crash dies

A 20-year-old Singaporean woman who was on life support following a traffic accident in the Australian state of Victoria, has died, said Victoria Police on Wednesday (28 November).
The woman, identified by earlier media reports as Gwyneth Lok, was a project executive with events company Chupa. Her death follows a vehicular collision at the intersection of Remembrance Drive and Madden Road on Saturday evening, which sent the blue Renault Lok was travelling in crashing into a tree.

“Five occupants in one of the cars, all Singaporean nationals, were taken to hospital, three with minor injuries,” said a Victoria Police spokesperson. “Two 20-year-old women remain in hospital in a stable condition.”

The driver, 21-year-old Nashua Nasser, was charged on Sunday with negligently causing serious injury and dangerous driving causing serious injury. She had allegedly failed to stop at a give way sign at the intersection. Following’s Lok’s death, these charges will now be reviewed, said Victoria Police.

According to media reports, the victims include Nasser’s twin sister Naimi, a Singapore Management University student. She was reportedly air-lifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital for critical head and chest injuries.

Nashua Nasser, who is out on bail, will appear at the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on 21 February.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 48-year-old man, and his passenger, a 10-year-old girl, were not injured.
