Singaporean dies in fire in Johor Baru house
The double-storey house in Jalan Setia 5/3, Taman Setia Indah that went ablaze at 10.30am.
JOHOR BARU: A Singaporean man was killed in a fire at a double-storey house in Jalan Setia 5/3, Taman Setia Indah, here, on Friday.
The victim, Koh Kok Leong, in his 30s, was found lying prone in a back room on the upper floor and is believed to have died from smoke inhalation in the 10.30am incident.
Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Station chief Tahrin Saat said firemen arrived at the location 20 minutes after being informed about the blaze.
He said the fire was put under control in less than two minutes.
"The victim was believed to have suffocated due to the thick smoke.
“The fire only involved the master bedroom on the same floor causing about 40 percent damage," he told reporters at the scene.
He added that the cause of fire and losses were still being investigated.
Meanwhile, Johor Baru Selatan District police chief ACP Zainuddin Yaacob said the case had been classified as sudden death.
The body of the victim was sent to the Sultan Ismail Hospital here for post-mortem, he added. - Bernama
